1. Introduction
Claire is a voice companion for older adults and the families who care for them. This policy explains what Claire collects, why, and what you can do about it.
It covers the Claire app and the clairecompanion.com website, including the invitation and pairing links the app opens in a browser.
2. Information We Collect
Claire collects the following:
- Account information. Your name, email address, language, sign-in identifiers, and account settings. If you sign in through another service, we receive the identifier it gives us and the email address you choose to share.
- Care profile information. The name, age, and care details you enter for the person you care for, plus reminders, emergency contacts, and who belongs to a care circle.
- Voice and conversation data. Your speech while a voice conversation is running, the transcript of that conversation, and text chats with Claire.
- Health and wearable data. Activity, sleep, and vital signs from Apple Health, Health Connect, and the wearables you connect, such as steps, heart rate, and blood pressure.
- Symptoms and medications. What you or your care circle record in the app, including doses marked as taken or missed.
- Photos and files. Photos and documents you choose to add to a conversation or save to Claire. You can review and remove these under Saved files.
- Device and diagnostic data. Device model, operating system, app version, language, IP address, crash reports, and performance traces.
- Subscription data. Your plan, billing period, and purchase status. Apple and Google process your payment. Claire never receives your card number.
3. How We Use Information
Claire uses your information to run the features you turn on: holding voice and text conversations, writing daily summaries, tracking medications, raising alerts when something looks off, and keeping a care circle in sync.
We also use it to fix crashes, measure whether features work, answer your support messages, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising.
4. Family and Elderly Account Sharing
Claire links an older adult's profile to the family members they have connected with. Connected caregivers can see daily summaries, alerts, medication status, symptoms, and health trends.
Connected caregivers do not get every conversation. Private chats stay private to the person who had them.
Only invite people you trust. Remove a caregiver as soon as their access is no longer appropriate. A family account holder can do this in the app.
5. Voice Data and Transcripts
A voice conversation runs over a live connection. Your speech is converted to text, an AI model produces the reply, and the reply is spoken back to you.
Claire does not store the audio. Nothing is recorded to a file. The transcript is stored, because summaries, medication tracking, and alerts are built from it.
Tell people nearby when Claire is listening. Do not use Claire to capture someone else's voice without their permission.
6. Health and Wearable Data
Claire reads health data only after you grant permission through Apple Health or Health Connect, and only the types you allow. Claire never writes to or changes your health records.
You can revoke any of these permissions in your device settings at any time. Summaries, trends, and alerts that depend on the revoked data will stop working.
Health data helps Claire show trends and notice changes. Claire is not a medical device and does not diagnose anything.
7. Personal Memory and Baselines
Claire keeps short memory notes and a health baseline for the person being cared for. Memory notes let Claire remember what matters across conversations. The baseline is what that person's normal looks like, so Claire can tell when something has shifted.
Both are built from what you enter and from the conversations and health data you have connected. You can ask us to review, correct, or delete them.
8. AI Processing
Claire sends conversation text and relevant care context to AI models to produce replies, summaries, and insights. We send what the feature needs and no more.
Your conversations, health data, and documents are not used to train AI models. Our agreements with AI providers prohibit training on your data.
AI output can be wrong. Check anything that matters before acting on it.
9. Analytics and Diagnostics
Claire measures product usage with PostHog and collects crash reports with Sentry. Both are deliberately limited.
Session replay is off. Claire does not capture screen recordings, taps, keystrokes, or form contents. Analytics events come from a fixed list written into the app rather than from whatever you happen to do.
Analytics never includes conversation text, voice transcripts, health values, symptom or medication detail, names, the content of anything you upload, passwords, or authentication tokens.
Crash reports exclude personal information by default, and we strip identifiers from them before they are sent. Screenshots and view hierarchies are not attached.
10. Service Providers
These companies process information on Claire's behalf. Each one is limited by contract to providing its service to us.
Support email you send us is delivered through Resend. Do not include health details in a support email.
- Supabase. Accounts, care profiles, health records, transcripts, and uploaded files.
- Fly.io. Application hosting, in Japan.
- LiveKit. The live connection that carries a voice conversation.
- Deepgram. Speech to text.
- Cartesia. Text to speech.
- OpenRouter, Google Gemini, and OpenAI. AI models, and the embeddings used to search memory.
- Langfuse. Metadata about AI requests, used to debug quality and cost.
- PostHog. Product analytics.
- Sentry. Crash and performance reporting.
- RevenueCat. Subscription status, working alongside the App Store and Google Play.
- Resend. Support email delivery.
11. Data Retention
Claire keeps your information for as long as it is needed to provide the service, and no longer, unless the law requires us to keep it.
Your account content stays while your account is active. When you delete an account or profile, we delete it from our live systems within 30 days.
Diagnostic and analytics records are kept on a shorter schedule than your account content, because they exist only to fix and measure the app.
12. Data Security
Claire encrypts data in transit with TLS. Our database provider encrypts data at rest. Access to production data is restricted and logged, and sign-in tokens are held in your device's secure storage.
No system is perfectly secure. Use a strong password, keep your device locked, and email us if you think your account has been accessed by someone else.
13. Account and Data Deletion
Family account holders can delete their account in the Claire app under Settings, Privacy and data, Delete account.
Elderly users do not have logins. Their care lead or another authorized representative can request deletion of the profile. Email claire@clairecompanion.com from the address on your family account. Do not include health details in the email. We may verify who you are and whether you have authority before we act.
- Deleting a family account removes its profile, settings, private chats, uploads, push registrations, and care circle memberships.
- Deleting an elderly profile removes their health records, conversations, memory, uploads, and care circle connections.
- Deleting a family account does not delete a shared elderly profile while another authorized caregiver is still connected.
- Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel that in the App Store or Google Play.
14. Your Rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it.
Email claire@clairecompanion.com. We may need to verify your identity first. For account deletion, use the steps in section 13, which is faster.
15. Taiwan Privacy Rights
If Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act applies to you, you may review your personal data, request a copy, correct or complete it, stop us collecting, processing, or using it, and have it deleted. Some of these rights have limits under the Act.
Email claire@clairecompanion.com to make a request.
16. Where We Process Data
Claire is hosted in Japan. Some providers process data in the United States and in other countries, including our AI, analytics, and crash reporting providers.
These countries have different privacy laws than the one you live in. Where the law requires safeguards for a transfer, we put them in place.
18. Age Requirement
Claire is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
A user under 18 needs a parent or guardian to agree to these practices on their behalf. If you believe someone under 16 is using Claire, email us and we will delete the account.
19. Changes
We will post any update on this page and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will notify you in the app and ask for consent where the law requires it.
